County Sheriff
— A deputy was dispatched at 7:07 p.m. Saturday to Hammond School Road, Madison Township, for a welfare check on a baby. The homeowner said no baby was living there and that no baby was on the property.
— A Hillcrest Road, Yellow Creek Township, woman reported at 6:53 p.m. Saturday that her neighbor was setting off fireworks and the debris was going in her yard and on the roof.
— Deputies were advised at 5:45 p.m. Saturday about a damaged mailbox with beer cans lying by it on Bowman Road, Knox Township. A woman advised they saw the mailbox at 6:15 a.m. Saturday. She said she only wanted a report due to a possible rash of drunk drivers. She was told it will be noted.
— A reckless driver was reported following a caller at 11:18 p.m. Friday. The caller advised that when he got to the intersection of state Route 164 and Kelly Park Road, a blue Mazda 6 pulled up alongside him and a female began to yell that he was stalking her before then driving off. The incident happened 45 minutes before he called.
— A juvenile-related report was called in at 9:30 p.m. Friday on Stanley Drive, Knox Township.
— An alarm was reported at 7:17 p.m. Friday at Consumers National Bank, Canal Street, Hanoverton, with all doors and windows secure at ground level.
— At 6:04 p.m. Friday, deputies received a complaint from a property owner on state Route 558, Salem Township, who reported a neighbor said he was going to shoot his dog if it came onto his property. The property owner wanted deputies to speak with the neighbor.
— A man in West Farmington called at 9:25 p.m. July 3 to request a welfare check on a resident of state Route 644, Franklin Township. Deputies spoke with the man who was fine.
— A man from Mansfield called at 8:35 p.m. July 3 to request a welfare check on a relative on Bayard Road, Knox Township. A deputy spoke to the relative who was fine.
— A complaint of threats and harassment was reported at 1:07 a.m. July 2 by a Fairfield Township resident on Edward Circle who reported a female from Texas was giving her personal information on social media. The caller said she was concerned for her safety. She was told to request a protection order and was advised of the steps to continue that process.
— A domestic incident was reported at 12:32 a.m. Sunday on West Point Road in Madison Township. The person and alleged victim left before deputies arrived. The area was a checked, but no one was found.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 2700 block of East State Street at 3 a.m. Monday for a report of possible drug paraphernalia found in the bathroom of the business. Officers discovered the suspected contraband to be tobacco products, and the contents were disposed of.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fourth Street at 1:07 a.m. Monday for a report of two people in the roadway yelling. Officers spoke with them and were advised that they had a verbal disagreement, and both parties were advised to stop yelling and sent on their way.
— Officers on patrol in the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 8:40 p.m. Sunday observed a man slumped over in a vehicle. Officers discovered the man was having a medical emergency, and the fire department and EMT responded and transported the man to the Salem emergency room for evaluation.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 8:04 p.m. Sunday for a report of criminal damage. The person advised that while in the 2800 block of East State Street the right side of his car had been keyed. Photos were obtained of the damage, and a business was contacted for video footage of the incident and will contact officers later.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 7:13 p.m. Sunday for a reported reckless operator. Officers spoke with the driver in question, advising them of the complaint, and the driver advised he was trying to fix his mirror while driving which is why he’d stopped at an auto parts store. There were no signs of impairment.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Wilson Street at 5:36 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check on a woman that was seen passed out in a vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver, Steven McCracken, 45, Berlin Center, observing signs of impairment. Officers conducted a field sobriety test and based on the results took McCracken into custody and administered a breath test at the police department which showed him to be over the limit. McCracken was charged with physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, and the man was provided with a mandatory court date and released to a sober person. A mandatory court date was issued, and McCracken was released to a sober person.
— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 5:29 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic report. The caller advised a family member was yelling at them while pushing their finger against their face. Officers advised the caller the incident would be sent to a prosecutor for review.
— Officers responded to a business in the 2800 block of East State Street at 4:03 p.m. Sunday for a report of attempted shoplifting, during which the person in question used force to pull an item from an employee’s hands, injuring the employee’s shoulder and escalating the incident to an attempted robbery. The person ran to the front of the business, passing all points of payment before being confronted by a customer and employee, dropping the item before fleeing into the parking lot. First responders and EMT responded for the injured employee, and officers gathered information and are awaiting surveillance in conjunction with the follow up investigation. At the time of the report, it was unknown if the person left the area on foot or got into a vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 2100 block of Southeast Boulevard at 3:31 p.m. Sunday for a report of harassment. The caller advised that he had been receiving multiple telephone calls and messages from his ex-girlfriend after an incident that had taken place yesterday. Officers advised the caller that a police report would be filed.
— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 2:11 p.m. Sunday for a report of toolboxes and tools being taken out of the bed of the caller’s truck. Officers will contact the business to request security footage.
— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 1:38 p.m. Sunday for an ambulance needed complaint. Officers stood by while the fire department and EMT treated the person and later transported them to the hospital.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Sixth Street at 12:09 p.m. Sunday for a report of a distraught woman outside the residence yelling. Officers spoke with the woman and her son who resides at the residence. The woman was upset about a juvenile female, who is a friend of her son’s roommate, being at the residence around her son, who has a learning disability, while the roommate was not at home. Officers also spoke with the father of the juvenile and advised him of the complaint.
— Officers responded to the area of Broadway Avenue and East Euclid Street at 2:28 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller advised the man, who was intoxicated, got upset and ran off on the roadway. The man was located by friends a short time later, and it was discovered officers were not needed.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West Perry Street at 2:08 a.m. Sunday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller reported someone was ringing her doorbell in the middle of the night and that it was not the first time that this had occurred. Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone, the caller was advised officers will provide extra patrol in the area.
