Jury trial remains set in child porn possession case

LISBON — A jury trial remains set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 5 for an Illinois man charged for allegedly possessing images of child pornography after being caught in a sex-for-hire sting in 2024. Vincent John Bianconi, 36, last known address Chicago Heights, Ill., appeared in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court before Judge Scott Washam for another status hearing Thursday. Sheriff’s Office — A man who wasn’t home reported at 3:42 p.m. Wednesday that he saw on his camera on the outside of his residence a man riding a scooter in his driveway from the road. A deputy checked the property and area, with no contact with anyone. — Trespassing was reported at 6:28 p.m. Tuesday at a Votaw Drive, Lisbon property. Area residents reminded of e-waster drop off in Lisbon Saturday

LISBON — Area residents are being reminded about the e-waste drop off event happening from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot of the Columbiana County Courthouse at the corner of South Beaver Street and West Washington Street. Newell Fun Day set for Aug. 1

Newell Fun Day is scheduled for Aug. 1. Activities start at 11 a.m. with the water parade at 4 p.m. Mad River Men will perform at 3 p.m. There will be a cornhole tournament, dunk tank, bounce house, foam pit and food trucks as well as the Fun Day’s first 5K event Stop Drop and Run beginning at 9 p.m. Water barrels will line the streets of Washington Street, just bring a squirt gun. St. Clair Township opts out of state salt contract

CALCUTTA — St. Clair Township is opting out of the state salt contract. Trustee James Sabatini II, Fiscal Officer Deborah Dawson and Road Foreman Dave Smith Monday discussed their review of the township’s road salt inventory, cost increase of salt and the budget. Following the discussion, they determined the township will opt of the State Road Salt Contract for 2026-2027, having enough salt in inventory to carry through the upcoming winter season. Hegseth wants troops tested for low T

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Wednesday that he is rolling out a new screening program for "testosterone deficiency" among troops, calling it necessary to allow them to operate at their "absolute best." The screenings will be conducted annually as part of service members' required medical screenings for those 30 and older, he said. Troops under 30 can volunteer to be tested.
