EAST LIVERPOOL – East Liverpool will be searching for other options for winter salt. Safety Service Director Bill Jones informed council members during Monday’s meeting the city received notice of a significant price increase for road salt for the 2026-2027 winter season. Jones told council members that last year’s price under the State of Ohio Salt Purchasing Contract for the 2025-2026 season was $58 per ton. LISBON — The project to help qualifying residents connect to the new sewer system in Hanoverton is finally starting after Columbiana County commissioners recently awarded the contract to Murphy Excavating LLC for $147,000. Murphy submitted the lone bid the second time around after the project was rebid this spring. Chief Deputy Sanitary Engineer Troy Graft of the county Engineer’s Office said the contract is for 120 days, with completion of the work expected in October/November. SALEM — The driver involved in a fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash near the Salem Golf Club on state Route 45 on June 18 has been identified as Gage M. Palmer, 23, Steubenville, according to the recently issued Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
