SALINEVILLE — Upon returning to American soil after the Vietnam war, soldiers encountered a conflicted nation that didn’t necessarily receive them with open arms.
The Salineville American Legion Post 442 hopes to change that perception, hosting a dinner for area Vietnam veterans and their spouses on March 28 at their 51 West Main St. location.
Sunday, March 28, is National Vietnam Veteran Day.
According to the History Channel, more than three million people (including 58,000 Americans) were killed in the Vietnam War.
Scott Hart, commander of the John Adams AL post 442, explained dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with the post’s auxiliary making the dinner, which will include chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetable, dessert and a drink. There is no cost to either post members or Vietnam veteran and spouses.
The event is open to the public.
Hart asked individuals interested in attending to RSVP at the post after 3 p.m. by March 23 by calling 330-679-0022.
