Property owners can’t keep taking hits
To the editor,
Someone in Columbus has made the decision that our properties are worth more money and therefore more taxes. Supposedly house bills 129 and 186 were passed that will give (some) property owners a temporary refund in the next half of 2025.
St. Clair police have an additional levy on for May, and Beaver Local is already complaining about the money they will lose.
Our police do a good job and it’s not that I don’t want them to have the equipment they need, but property owners just can’t keep taking these hits. St. Clair Township is number two, out of 18 in township levy taxation, and that doesn’t include the extra fees we pay on our license plates.
My school tax for six months went from $693 to $909, plus $70 for vocational school. That’s almost $2,000 a year (JUST) for the schools. I’m sure others with bigger homes than mine pay much more.
Check the local foreclosure listings in The Review every week. There are over 10,000 listed closures across our state. People don’t want to lose their homes, but not everyone has a job where they can get pay increases or overtime. Many of us don’t have a way to increase our income like the government entities that keep coming to us for more.
Read your property tax bill; see where your hard earned money is going. Go to Lisbon and appeal your taxes. It might not do any good, but we need to let our government know we are not taking this lying down.
