CHESTER — Ed Wedgewood announced Friday that he intends to seek a second term as the city’s mayor.

“Over the past four years of this term, the city has made great progress, but I (believe) there is more to be done,” he said.

Wedgewood cited Chester’s need for a new sewer plant as well as continued upgrades to the city’s infrastructure.

“In addition, I’d like to continue our dilapidated homes demolition project. It is key to improving the aesthetics of the city,” he added.

Although he said he is happy with the accomplishments made during his first term, Wedgewood noted he is most proud of the amount of grant money his administration was able to bring back to Chester.

“It has allowed us to pave our streets, improve water infrastructure and (make) countless improvements to our municipal building,” he said. “We have also strengthened our ordinances and streamlined our municipal government during this time.”

Wedgewood also touted the financial security introduced thanks to the Home Rule Ordinance and the return of casino proceeds to Chester.

“It would be an honor to lead the City of Chester for the next four years and I will be seeking the voters’ support on election day,” he concluded.

Wedgewood, who works as a senior billing analyst for True North of East Liverpool, was a Chester city councilman for four years until assuming the mayoral office in 2018. He has a bachelor of arts degree in political science from West Virginia University and resides in Chester.
