Weirton looking for cutest Christmas pet
WEIRTON – For the last three years, Weirton has helped to usher in the holidays for everyone, whether they have two legs or four, and the same will be true this year.
Once again, the Weirton Festival Committee is in search of the cutest Christmas pet with the Christmas on Main Street National Cutest Christmas Pet Photo Contest, with voting taking place through Nov. 14 by going online to www.gogophotocontest.com/cutestchristmaspetphotocontestweirton.
Organizers also continue to look for contestants with only seven entries registered as of Sunday afternoon.
“Last year, we had around 20,” noted Assistant City Manager DeeAnn Pulliam.
The contest is held entirely online, and, as such, is open to anyone across the country, with a portion of the proceeds from this year’s competition set to benefit the Hancock County Animal Shelter.
“This will help us provide opportunities for the animals to get adopted and to reach out to the community to showcase our animals,” explained Caylee Stewart, director of operations for the animal shelter.
Stewart said the animal shelter is planning to participate in Weirton’s Christmas on Main Street, scheduled for Nov. 22, setting up an informational table to help area residents learn more about the shelter and the animals it has available for adoption.
There is a $10 entry fee for those wishing to participate in the contest, and a $1 fee for each vote cast in the contest.
The top three entries, based on highest vote totals, will be announced at a later date, with prize packages totaling more than $2,500 and made possible through the contest’s sponsors which include Pet Supplies Plus; Taylor & Makricostas PLLC; Kroger; Outback Steakhouse; and Nick’s Towing, Collision Center, Auto Sales and Rebuilders.
