EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool Fire Department ruled the cause of an apartment fire on Nov. 12 as undetermined after an investigation.

ELFD responded to the fire located at 515 College Street at 10:39 a.m. and cleared the scene after extinguishing the fire at 11:52 a.m.

When arriving on scene firefighters found fire in the porch roof and were able to bring it under control before it spread into the unit or to other units. Salvage and overhaul operations were conducted to make sure the fire had not spread elsewhere.

Fire Chief Antony Cumo said the first truck on the scene had the fire knocked down pretty quickly, then they went into overhaul immediately and stopped the fire from running up into the attic.

“If it wasn’t for the quick actions of the first arriving crews it would have been a lot worse,” Cumo said.

ELFD was assisted with automatic mutual aid by the Liverpool Township Volunteer Fire Department. Utility companies were also on scene to disconnect gas and electric services.

Damage was estimated at $5,000 for property and $2,000 for contents.

The multifamily dwelling is owned by Matthew Stacey who was also the occupant. Roosevelt Wetzel and Diana Dalrymple also lived at the residence, according to the report provided by the ELFD.

There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters.
