WELLSVILLE – The administration for Wellsville Local Schools has settled into its new location at the Wellsville Local School District Board of Education and Administration Office located near the Jr. Sr. High School at 472 14th St., Wellsville.
The phone number for the new location is 330-532-0075 and the fax number is 330-362-9075.
Formerly, the board of education offices and administration staff were located inside Daw Middle School.
The new location is a former church which was purchased by the district in 2018.
The total cost of the move including purchase, renovations and the move was $203,142.60.
The purchase cost for the building on Feb. 28, 2018, was $55,825.25.
Renovations cost a total of $147,317.35. Construction was $60,892.28, plumbing was $9,638.98, air conditioning was $12,700, flooring was $9,224.92, security/network was $37,711.12, electrical was $9,350.05 and tree trimming cost $ 7,800.
The building was completed and ready for staff to move in on Aug. 4.
School Superintendent David Cappuzello noted the move was needed for several reasons including student safety and student privacy.
With the administration being housed in a school building, there would be times when more than students and staff would need to be in the administration office, which meant additional people inside the school.
He noted a concern for student privacy and pointed out that if a student were coming into the administration office with parents it was a good possibility they were there for a discipline hearing or other such matters and it wouldn’t take much for students at the school to figure that out.
Moving to a building owned, but not being utilized by the district, would restrict the flow of traffic into a school building, increasing student safety and giving students and parents who need to meet with the administration staff more privacy in a building without the presence of other students, Cappuzello said.
He also noted that it made sense for the administration to have its own building and it was a good way to put an unused building into use.
The move was started on Aug. 4 and staff have now completely settled in and are operating fully of the new location.
