Scholar of the Month
Lucas Zoellers is the September 2025 Lions Club Scholar of the Month.
Lucas is the son of Grover and Julie Zoellers of New Cumberland, West Virginia. He is a three-year letterman in football and a three-year letterman in baseball. In 2023 he was awarded Oak Glen football’s Spirit of the Bear award.
In 2025, week 1 of the football season, Lucas was awarded the Defelice Scholar of the Week.
For the last two years, Lucas has attended the John D. Rockefeller Career Center for Carpentry. In 2024 he, along with his team mate Sam Jenkins, won the Gold Metal in the Skills USA state competition in Fairmont in the category of Entry Level Carpentry. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the prom committee.
Outside school and sports, Lucas likes to ride side-by-sides, create items on his 3D printer, and hunt.
After graduation Lucas plans to attend a technical school to pursue a degree to become an information technical specialist.
Lil’ Critters at Beaver Creek
Bob and Kathy from BobKat’s Lil’ Critters will be at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center with their live raccoons and opossum from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday. After the program visitors will be able to get up close to the animals and pet them, ask questions, and take pictures. Seating is limited so bring a chair. This is the last weekend for the Wildlife Center to be open in 2025. The drawing for the fishing charter raffle will be at 4 p.m. Questions can be sent to beavercreekw@aol.com.
WLC Club meets
The WLC Club met on Sept. 23 at the Living Well Church with leader Mary Jarvis opening the meeting with prayer and then Jarvis holding role call.
Jarvis wore the officers ribbon. The challenge will be carried over until next week. The nono this week is cake. Donna Lee won the 50/50 drawing.
Mary Schmidt reported that the contest is going well and it will end on Oct. 14.
Barb Tranter read a short story and then Jarvis closed the meeting wishing all a good week.
Tops 1341 holds meeting
Tops 1341 met at the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church on Monday, Sept. 29, with Mary Gailey, leader, presiding. Marlene Reynolds was the best loser and Dorothy Garn was the runner up. They chose all soda and cake as the junk foods for the coming week.
The drawing winners were: 50/50, Darlene Naukem; food chart and weight loss, Reynolds; junk food, Lydia Kraft; jackpot, Cheryl Myers.
Losing three weeks in a row and the check contest was won by Dorothy Garn. Three times in the best losers book was Reynolds. Pat Allison and Cathy Wollam were in the attendance record. Darla Varney now holds the travel box. Reynolds was the drawing winner. Cathy Wollam shared the article “Small Changes-Big Results” from Readers Digest. A discussion and questions followed. Reynolds led a 10-minute chair yoga with the members.
The meeting opened with pledges and closed with concerns and The Lord’s Prayer.

Choose to Lose Group
Choose To Lose Group met at Boyce Church on September 30 with leader Penny Perorazio presiding. The meeting opened up with the pledge of allegiance followed by the CTLG roll call.
Pam Fouse gave the secretary report and Cassie Stephens gave the treasure report. Both were approved as read.
Carolyn Hager was the Pearl’s biggest loser. Dottie Seevers was the Diamonds biggest loser and also the officer biggest loser. Diamonds in leeway are JoAnn Beresford and Dottie Seevers.
Pat Heacock won the calorie charts, Penny Perorazio won the dimes, and Dottie Seevers won the Share The Blessing. Winners of the No Fibbing Contest are Wanda Price, Penny Perorazio, Pam Fouse, and Pat Heacock. New numbers were drawn for the following week # 9. Winner of the Pig In The Pen Contest was Tassy Everett. Tassy Everett was also the Winner Of The Month, Weight Loss.
Cassie Stephens shared an article about coffee. Penny Perorazio read a statement from Mathew McConaughey, Poems and Prayers.
