A small group gathered Thursday morning in Wellsville to reflect on the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and remember the only life from Columbiana County lost in the attacks. Wellsville graduate Cathy Salter, a vice president at Aon Risk Services, was in her office on the 102 floor in the South Tower of the World Trade Center when hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 struck the building 20 floors below. Salter died when the towers collapsed. On Thursday Cathy’s mother Eleanor Salter placed a bouquet of flowers at the memorial marker that honors her daughter near the flood wall. Eleanor was joined by Wellsville Fire Chief Barry Podwel and Jamie Hardman — both classmates of Cathy’s — to remember Cathy on the 24th anniversary of her death. Podwel also placed a wreath on the memorial. Pictured, Eleanor places a bouquet of flowers at the bottom of Cathy’s memorial stone. (Photos by Stephanie Elverd)
