Liverpool Twp. police chief requests Lexipol subscription

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP– During a meeting Tuesday, Police Chief Jared Kinemond requested trustees consider a yearly subscription to Lexipol.

The program usually costs $4,500 yearly but would be prorated to approximately $2,500 for this year. The service would provide continuous training opportunities for officers; updates on changes as they are made regarding laws and law enforcement procedures; and would give the department accreditation allowing for more grant opportunities.

Kinemond explained that several of the grants he wanted to apply for were not eligible due to lacking accreditation. Lexipol would also provide a benefit during instances of any lawsuits against the department.

The trustees — while agreeing the service would be benefit — tabled the request until the April 16 meeting pending additional discussion.

Kinemond also requested and was granted approval to purchase a spare tire needed for one of the department’s cruisers.

Road Superintendent Chris Bosworth requested the trustees approve a $750 broom rental fee, so he could rent the broom for a week to sweep the streets and get them ready for chip and seal.

Bosworth also said the road department has switched to summer hours, which are from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Fridays off unless needed.

Trustees, who were originally considering Farmers Bank for the financing of a backhoe, opted to go with the State Bank for a three-year loan for the $80.739.02 balance due on the new backhoe at 6.39% interest. The decision to go with the State Bank was based on Farmers having too many extra fees in its contract.

The purchase of a shredder for the township, at about $1,500 to be paid for from ARPA funds, was approved. Trustees determined this would be the best option over the continuous replacement of smaller cheaper shredders.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati was absent from the meeting but submitted a report noting that she was preparing to start on the 2025 budget.

The trustees approved two resolutions: one to accept the revised authorized credit card user list and the other approving the final draft Solid Waste Management Plan of Carroll, Columbiana and Harrison Joint Solid Waste Management District, which is renewed every five years.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Township Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for April 16.

Starting at $2.99/week.
