Respected math teacher will be retiring from Beaver Local
LISBON — A math teacher who helped formulate questions for the Ohio Graduation test is retiring from the Beaver Local School District this May.
The board of education approved the retirement of high school math teacher David Andres during the February meeting.
Andres began teaching math for Beaver Local in 1999, just one year after completing his secondary mathematics degree from Kent State University.
He completed his bachelor of science in education from Kent State University in 1989. In 2004 he completed his master’s degree in mathematics from KSU as well.
According to his resume, Andres was a member and active participant of the Ohio Content Advisory Committee through the Ohio Department of Education from 2006 through 2015.
As member and participant he was responsible for reviewing and revising questions and short answer reponses for the Ohio Graduation Test.
Beaver Local Superintendent Eric Lowe said Andres is not only an “excellent teacher but also always has a kind heart for students” and always made sure to go the extra mile for the kids.
Board member Greg Eisenhart also said that he appreciated the hard work Andres put in to make sure Beaver Local students received a good education in his classroom.
Andres will retire on May 31.
Also during the meeting the Elementary Clasp Award Winners were recognized. The Lions Club Award winners are part of the district’s recognition for the pillars of character.
“These students were recognized by teachers for being good citizens and demonstrating that they are caring, kind, responsible, respectful and trustworthy,” Lowe said.
Building principal Jake Walgate shared that eighth grade student Shaylynn Dennis won the school spelling bee and will look to repeat as Columbiana County champion.
Walgate and building principal Jim Riccardo also told the board that the middle and high school robotics teams both qualified for the state competition.
