17 accused clergy worked in Columbiana County
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Catholic Diocese has released more details about some of the clergy members who have been named in what the diocese says are “credible allegations” of sexual abuse.
According to Youngstown-based WFMJ 21 News, the Diocese on Thursday released the locations where 20 of those accused had worked over the years. Seventeen of those priests worked in Columbiana County parishes, including the former St. Aloysius in East Liverpool and the shuttered Immaculate Conception in Wellsville.
(In 2011, the Diocese combined the congregations of St. Aloysius and Immaculate Conception, as well as St. Ann’s in the East End of East Liverpool, to form Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.)
Bishop Murry said legal counsel advised the diocese to only release the names of the priests, and not what parishes they worked at, or when they served there. However, Murry says he has since chosen to defy legal counsel and has furnished a list of the parishes each priest or clergyperson worked at.

Murry has said all of the parishes and schools where the priests in question had been stationed were notified in writing and were invited to contact the diocese if they knew of someone who had been abused.
Bishop Murry is asking anyone who has been abused to come forward and speak with the diocese victim assistance coordinator, retired Sergeant Delphine Baldwin-Casey, at 330-718-1388.
According to media reports, Murry says he has welcomed Mahoning County Prosecutor Paul Gains to review files the diocese has on priests who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse.
The bishop said in many cases, victims declined to prosecute their alleged abusers. Instead, saying they just wanted them out of the ministry.
