Lisbon cyclist to pilot blind athlete across 863 miles in race across the west

LISBON – Local ultra-endurance cyclist and race director Joe Lawhorn is preparing for one of the most meaningful challenges of his decorated cycling career as he teams up with pioneering blind athlete Tina Ament for the 2026 Race Across the West. The race begins June 16 in Oceanside, California, and covers 863 miles before finishing in Durango, Colorado. Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester, W.Va., will be celebrating the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday, June 12, with a Mass at 6 p.m. Each family in attendance will be given a 10- by 14-inch print of the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus suitable for framing.
