Our elections require informed voters

To the editor: Friends and neighbors and all those concerned about the outcome of the Nov. 3 election: The news media has been pointing out that “Sleepy Joe Biden” has six million more votes than Donald Trump. Trump claims this result was brought about because of massive voter fraud. Let us look at the facts and put all political caterwauling aside, which only serves to confuse. First of all, the popular vote is dwelt upon like a mother hen waiting for her chicks to hatch. Monitors dutifully report the number of votes registered in each state as the polls close. They use their ...

Nurses are heroes and essential to our communities

To the editor: One of the most monumental figures in my life is my Auntie Mar. I was the youngest of five and was being raised by a single mother. My Auntie Mar was a superhero in my life in helping buy school clothes for five kids, sending cards for every holiday, and taking us to the movies. My super hero was also a nurse. My Auntie Mar retired after being a registered nurse for 46 years. Now, my sister is a nurse, and I am a nurse. Some of the best friends I have in this life are nurses. Nurses are deemed the “Most Trusted Profession” for 18 years in a row now. I have worked in ...

Family member speaks out about incident

To the editor: My family was dealt a blow recently when my cousin died from a genetic heart anomaly. The circumstances of her passing were not suspicious in any way and law enforcement was not involved beyond the first day. Any normal human being would have looked at this situation and done everything possible to avoid adding to her mom’s, sister’s and brother’s grief. Most people did just that with one notable exception. An assistant county prosecutor looked at my cousin’s passing and apparently saw an opportunity to be a source of gossip. Witness have described this person ...

Resents comments made by Trump

To the editor: “Losers and Suckers.” “Losers and Suckers.” That’s how Trump described us while being interview by Bob Woodward on TV. I am an 80-year-old former volunteer GI. I enlisted, trained stateside, then shipped out to Germany for two-and-half years. Six months of that was an involuntary extension due to rising tensions in Berlin. Next came 13 months in Korea stationed a few miles from the DMZ. I went to the DMZ to photograph the bodies of dead Americans — GIs who were killed in a North Korean nighttime ambush. Vietnam, a year in the Mekong Delta, was next. Constant ...

In support of John Gamble

To the editor: This is the first time that I’ve ever written such a letter, but I have a few things that need to be stated. First off, my name is Richard Allan Blythe, and I’m from East Liverpool, but have moved out of the area some time ago. No matter how long I’ve been gone or where my travels have taken me, I always try to keep an eye on the happenings in Columbiana County as well as in Ohio, because no matter how far I’m physically away from Ohio, I’m always going to be a Buckeye and more importantly a Penguin. I must first preface this by stating that John Gamble ...

We thank you Sparkle Market in Lisbon

To the editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the owners and employees of the Sparkle Market in Lisbon for their many years of service to the community. We at Family Recovery Center have had a long relationship with the store and its management. We thank them for the times they have hired our women to work in the store and give them their first chance of having a real job and becoming responsible members of the community. Secondly, I personally thank the staff for having a great bakery department and the best donuts in the area as they were unbeatable. I will also miss ...
