Nurses want change

To the editor: Every year, between May 6 and 12, National Nurses Week recognizes the important work of nurses. As a local nurse, it’s nice to receive the recognition. A pat on the back here, a pizza party there, and maybe little trinkets that attempt to say, “thanks for all you do.” While I am appreciative, every year I feel let down. Why? Because what nurses really want for Nurses Week is change. Real, meaningful change that secures a better future for our profession. While the pandemic was tragic, it brought to light the serious issues in healthcare. COVID19 forced a light ...

Flag — and our country in need of repair

To the editor: While stopped at the traffic light of Park Way and Smith Ferry Road I happened to view our nation’s flag on display in the yard of a home on the corner. As I looked at the flag I could not help but think that this is how our nation is today. Although the colors of the flag are visible, it is very torn and in sad condition. Yet is was waving as best it could as the wind blew. This flag says I all.... the country and this flag both need repaired! PAUL HILL, East Liverpool

Saddened by all the trash in our area

To the editor: What happened while I was gone living my life in various places across the United States? What happened to my beloved Columbiana County? I have always been and still am proud of where I was born and grew up. However, I am deeply saddened by the enormous amounts of trash I see discarded along various highways and ditches. A recent story on the local news mentioned it was the Ohio Department of Transportation who is responsible for cleaning up our freeways while at the same time performing snow removal and endless repairs. It is an overwhelming task that never gets ...

Individuals help us to focus on the positives

To the editor: During our holiday season I have for years enjoyed the articles you publish by the late Bob Popp. They are genuinely moving and heartfelt. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Popp years ago when living in Midland as he knew my father and I found he was originally from the Midland area and his writings seemed to be somewhat fact-based, family-oriented and positive. Your newspaper now publishes articles on a weekly basis by my friend Fred Miller that are very entertaining, always interesting, humor filled and usually fact-based on Fred and/or his family’s experiences, ...

Not a fan of DeWine’s handling of virus

To the editor: Ohio Governor Dewine has told us to avoid large gatherings, avoid eating with others outside your household and wear a mask. Like good brainwashed Chinese soldiers, we put on our masks that if not handmade are made in China. While politicians like DeWine says to follow the science as Pelosi, Newsom, Mayor Lightfoot, Feinstein and on and on are caught on camera without a mask. If this virus is so deadly why aren’t they afraid? I ask how many deaths are marked with Covid than from Covid? That number really matters because if truly they died with Covid that is a .01% ...
