Steelers get line reinforcements

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers placed second-year defensive tackle Derrick Harmon on injured reserve Monday. The club made the move four days after Harmon injured his foot in the first half of a 27-24 loss to Cleveland. Harmon will miss a minimum of four weeks, a significant blow to a defense that's given up several big plays in the run game through the season's opening month. Harmon, a first-round pick in 2025, had been coming into his own early this season. His strip-sack in the final minutes against Cincinnati on Sept. 27 helped Pittsburgh hold on to beat the ...

Big Ten won’t discipline Rhule or officials

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — No disciplinary action will be taken against Big Ten officials who worked the Maryland-Nebraska football game or against Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule for his postgame criticism of the crew, a conference spokesman said Tuesday. The Big Ten announced Monday that Nebraska's final point-after kick in a 48-23 victory in Lincoln on Saturday was incorrectly officiated after a roughing-the-snapper penalty was called. Since Nebraska missed the attempt, the penalty should have resulted in the Huskers retrying the attempt with the penalty yardage enforced as half the ...

Cal changed coordinators at halftime

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — California changed offensive coordinators at halftime of the Golden Bears' loss to UNLV last week. Coach Tosh Lupoi confirmed on Tuesday that he stripped offensive coordinator Jordan Somerville of play-calling duties and promoted passing game coordinator Pat McCann to the role during the team's 39-31 loss to the Rebels. "I just changed it up," Lupoi said. "I thought it was time, We kind of sputtered a bit again." Cal (2-3) has gotten off to a rough start in Lupoi's first season with the offense struggling outside of one game against FCS-level Wagner. ...

Michigan tight end apologizes for leak

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan tight end Zack Marshall apologized Tuesday after messages attributed to him criticizing offensive coordinator Jason Beck leaked on social media following the Wolverines' 20-14 loss to Minnesota. "Last weekend, in the hours after we lost, I made some inappropriate comments that I regret," Marshall posted on X. "This game is won and lost as a team, and I pointed fingers instead of taking accountability." Leaked group messages showed texts alleged to have come from Marshall saying that Beck — Michigan's first-year offensive coordinator — had met ...

NFL suspends official for swearing

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL on Monday suspended a line judge two games for swearing at Arizona tight end Trey McBride. Jeff Seeman was caught on camera cursing at McBride during the Cardinals' loss at the New York Giants on Sunday. "Obviously, you hate to see it, for obvious reasons," Arizona coach Mike LaFleur said. "I do want to give the man a little bit of grace, too. I know Jeff. He's a good man. It's unfortunate it happened. It can't happen, obviously, and I'll leave it at that." The incident drew the ire of union leader JC Tretter, a retired offensive lineman who played eight ...
