WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Gio Lopez threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns in his Wake Forest debut, helping the Demon Deacons beat Akron 38-16 in Thursday night's opener. Lopez had completed 17 of 25 passes for 313 yards and all three of his scores by halftime, including hitting Louisville transfer Antonio Meeks deep over the middle for a 72-yard TD. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jared Jones pitched six strong innings, Jake Mangum had an RBI double in the second inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the skidding Los Angeles Angels 1-0 on Friday night. The MLB-worst Angels (53-88) lost for the 10th time in 11 games. The Pirates have won five of six games. HOF cuts selection panel in half

CANTON (AP) — The Pro Football Hall of Fame is overhauling the selection process by eliminating a separate category for senior players, cutting the selection committee nearly in half and returning to in-person meetings. The new procedures were approved by the Hall of Fame board following discussions with Hall of Fame staff, members and people on the selection committee.
