Wellsville's Kersey on way to state meet

CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS — Heartland Christian senior Rebecca Geiss advanced to the state track meet for the fourth straight year, while Wellsville senior Clayten Kersey in making it two in a row. Both earned runner-up finishes at the Cuyahoga Heights Division V regional meet Thursday. Geiss was second in the girls 3200-meter run in a season-best time of 10 minutes, 54.77 seconds. AUSTINTOWN — Southern Local senior Maddy Jones qualified for the state track and field meet with a third-place showing in the shot put on Wednesday with a best throw of 38 feet, 6 1/2 inches at the Div. IV regional meet at Austintown Fitch. Jones hit that mark on her second throw. She fouled on the last three attempts.
