Spartans hammer East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOOL -- Boardman won its 14th match in a row with a 25-12, 26-24, 25-15 win over East Liverpool on Monday.

The Potters dropped to 11-6, while Boardman is 14-3.

For the Potters, Cameron Conley had 15 assists. Addie Jones added six kills. Hailey Board hand two aces, two kills and two blocks. Addi Smith had three kills. Kendall Martin had 12 kills. Taylor Loedding and Lillie White had two aces each. Peyton Tanner had nine assists.

Boardman’s team includes East Liverpool basketball great Stephen Flores’ daughter Maya Flores. Maya, a senior, owns Boardman’s career kills record. She will continue her volleyball career at Youngstown State, just like her father and mother Jen (Perugini) Flores did on the basketball court.

Stephen, who was a three-time All-Ohioan at East Liverpool, is the current head boys basketball coach at Boardman. After East Liverpool, Stephen played two seasons of basketball at the University of Pittsburgh before finishing his playing career at Youngstown State.

The Spartans won the jayvee match, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21. Brilynn Jones had 17 assists for the Potters. Adrian Kendall had six kills. Kennedy Talbott had eight kills and two aces.

East Liverpool hosts Carrollton on Thursday.

BEAVER 3, CARROLLTON 0

CALCUTTA -- Beaver Local swept Carrollton, 27-25, 25-18, 25-16, Monday to improve to 13-4 on the season.

Lily Schrieber had 15 kills, six assists, one ace and three digs and Addie Thurik 13 kills, 11 assists, five aces and 14 digs to lead the Beavers. McKinnley Ferry contributed 18 assists, two aces and seven digs, Leah Schrieber four kills and seven digs, Olivia Opalenik four kills and two blocks, Madison Poppelriter two kills and three digs, Macie Bourne two kills, Taylor Pease eight digs, Gianna Congrove seven digs and Katie Miller one kill and one dig.

Carrollton lost its fifth in a row to fall to 4-13.

Beaver rLocal also won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-20. For the Beavers, Macie Bourne had seven kills, one ace and three digs, Madi Gaydos two assists, three aces and 11 digs, Jess Layman four kills and two digs, Sophia Pease four kills, Daisy McKnight three kills, Maddie Smith two kills, 11 assists, one ace and six digs, Makayla Jungfleisch two kills, two aces and 11 digs, Kylie Gbur one kill, five assists and three digs, and Ella Watson three digs.

Beaver Local will play a triple header at Stebuenville today starting with the freshmen at 4:30 p.m.

WELLSVILLE 3, LOWELLVILLE 2

WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville defeated Lowellville 23-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-11, 15-10 in volleyball action on Monday.

Aleena Owens led the Tigers (7-10) with 20 kills, 10 assists, seven digs and 10 aces. Kenzie Bosco added 14 kills, four digs and four aces. Kaylee Kazee had six assists, 14 digs and three aces.

Ella Betz contributed two kills, 12 digs and three aces. Jonnah Sears finished with four kills, 15 assists, six digs, three aces and three blocks. Gabby Carr added four kills and four digs.

Wellsville is at Leetonia today.

RIVER 3, SOUTHERN 0

HANIBAL -- River dropped Southern, 25-8, 25-16, 25-5, in volleyball play Monday.

The Pilots improve to 12-6, while the Indians move to 5-13.

Katie Kellogg served five points for Southern. Kalayah Crute had four kills, Natalia Lopez two kills and Payton Davison two blocks.

Southern won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-23. Mary Beadnell topped the Indians with eight points. Gemma Jackson had six kills and Eliana Forbes eight assists.

Southern will host Valley Christian today on senior night.
