CALCUTTA -- Beaver Local broke out of its slump with a 35-12 win over Cambridge on Friday night.

After losing four straight -- with the previous two games being shutouts -- along with a fumble on the first play of the game, the Beavers made quick work of the Bobcats, who have lost five straight against Beaver Local.

Playing without starting quarterback Reid Schwerha who suffered a concussion in last week's loss to Indian Creek, the Beavers went with Richie Wyse and Owen Moore under center.

Peyton Cowdery ended the Beavers' scoreless drought with a 5-yard touchdown run with 5:57 left in the first the play after Moore ran 53 yards.

At the 1:09 mark of the first Cowdery added another on a 4-yard touchdown run and Nolan Irving ran for the two-point conversion to make it 15-0.

Moore put the Beavers up 22-0 on a 17-yard run with 10:09 left in the second quarter.

Cambridge was able to drive down the field late in the first half to score on an AJ Lawrence 10-yard touchdown run as time expired to make it 22-6 at the break.

Moore scored again with 3:57 left in the third quarter to push Beaver's lead to 28-6.

Cambridge bagged a 22-yard field by Quintin Stora with 10:20 to go in the fourth quarter to cut the Beaver Local lead to 28-9. Stora added a 34-yard field with 7:04 left in the game to make it 28-12.

Beaver Local's Ryder Culp scored an 8-yard touchdown run with 2:48 left in the game to cap the Beaver scoring.

The Bobcats broke a 38-game losing streak last week with a 42-21 win over Weir High.

Beaver Local improves to 5-4 and will have a chance to get to a winning record on Friday as it heads to Lakeview.
