EAST LIVERPOOL 28, CAMBRIDGE 14
CAMBRIDGE -- East Liverpool handed Cambridge its 37th consecutive loss with a 28-14 decision Friday night.
The Potters improve to 4-2, while the Bobcats fall to 0-6. Cambridge last win came on Oct. 28, 2022, in a 31-13 victory against Logan Elm in a first-round playoff game.
Both teams play Friday as East Liverpool visits Edison and Cambridge travels to Union Local.
OAK GLEN 41, BUCKEYE 14
NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. -- Oak Glen snapped a three-game losing streak by rolling over Buckeye Local, 41-14, Friday.
Maddox Bowen had a big night for the Bears, going 20-of-28 passing for 312 yards and five touchdowns. Oak Glen finished with 512 yards of total offense in the win.
The Golden Bears opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and led 27-0 at halftime before both teams scored 14 in the third quarter.
Oak Glen improves to 2-3. Buckeye Local drops to 0-6 and has lost 11 games in a row.
Both teams play Friday as Oak Glen plays at St. Marys (W.Va.) and Buckeye Local hosts undefeated Martins Ferry.
EAST PALESTINE 38, WELLSVILLE 7
WELLSVILLE -- East Palestine captured its fourth straight win by pulling away from Wellsville, 38-7, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday.
The Bulldogs improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the EOAC. They will host co-leader United on Friday with the league title on the line.
After a scoreless first quarter, East Palestine scored two touchdowns in each of the final three quarters.
The Bulldogs led 14-0 at halftime, 26-7 through three quarters and added 12 more points in the final quarter.
Wellsville drops to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league play. The Tigers host Lisbon on Friday.
BROOKFIELD 34, CRESTVIEW 6
COLUMBIANA -- Rico Smith ran for three touchdowns and Brookfield ran away from Crestview for a 34-6 victory Friday.
Smith ran for a game-high 111 yards on 18 carries.
Brookfield improves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the MVAC Gray Tier. Crestview goes to 1-6 and 0-3 in league play.
The Warriors took a 20-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
Crestview’s Trevor McElhaney had a 3-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to make the score 26-6. McElhaney ran for 100 yards on 21 carries.
Brookfield had more rushing yards (209-152) and total yards (278-198).
Both teams play Friday as Crestview visits Newton Falls and Brookfield hosts LaBrae.
PYMATUNING VALLEY 41, LEETONIA 7
ANDOVER -- Pyamatuning Valley ran for 296 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-7 win over Leetonia on Friday.
The Lakers improve to 3-3, while the Bears move to 2-4.
Leetonia quarterback Dylan Johns had a 9-yard touchdown run and PAT to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter.
The Lakers led 27-7 at halftime and 41-7 through three quarters.
Johnson was 21-of-41 passing for 194 yards with three interceptions and ran for 65 yards on 10 carries. Brayden Gainey had 15 catches for 107 yards.
The Lakers led in first down (16-13) and total yards (328-266).
Leetonia will play at Grand Valley on Friday. Pymatuning Valley travels to Mogadore on Friday and to East Palestine on Oct. 9. The Lakers beat beat Valley Christian, 40-0, in Week 3.
CANFIELD 24, WEST BRANCH 14
BELOIT -- Three turnovers cost West Branch as the state-ranked Warriors dropped a 24-14 decision to Canfield on Friday.
It snapped West Branch’s 14-game regular-season win streak.
West Branch -- ranked eighth in the Division IV state poll -- goes to 5-1 on the season. Canfield improves to 2-4, including a loss to Salem.
The Warriors led 14-10 at halftime and were shut out in the second half.
Sami Hout ran 8 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and Patrick Groner had a 33-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to give Canfield the victory.
Hout led the Cardinals with 212 yards on 25 carries.
West Branch scored all of its points in the last 6:13 of second quarter -- on two Grady Hirst 1-yard touchdown runs and Drake Stryffler two-point conversion run.
Hirst ran for 128 yards on 24 carries and was 19-of-31 passing for 227 yards with two interceptions.
Gavin Marshall had eight catches for 112 yards. Stryffeler had four catches for 61 yards and Landon Coffee four catches for 39 yards.
West Branch had the advantage in first downs (20-13), yards passing (227-45) and total yards (382-310).
Both teams play Friday as West Branch visits Carrollton and Canfield hosts Louisville.
