CALCUTTA -- In a battle of OVAC powers, Oak Glen claimed a 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 over Beaver Local on Wednesday.
Oak Glen, who sits third in the OVAC Class 4A standings, improved to 14-6. Beaver Local, who was first in Class 5A, fell to 10-3.
Zoey Caughey led Oak Glen with 14 kills, while Naomi Ayers had 11 kills. Mikalyn Balch added nine kills, 26 assists and 19 digs. Caetlyn Six had seven kills, Mattie Carney had five and Laikynn Eckleberry added four. Bryson Adams recorded 17 assists. Kendall Six had five aces and 15 digs, while Keira Vick added 18 digs and one ace. Layla Skavenski had seven digs, and Ellie Smith added three digs and two aces.
For Beaver Local, Lily Schrieber had 13 kills, 17 digs and seven assists. Addie Thurik had 12 kills, 13 assists and 11 digs. Leah Schrieber had eight kills and six digs. McKinnley Ferry had 18 assists. Taylor Pease chipped in 14 digs and three aces.
Oak Glen also defeated Beaver Local’s junior varsity team 25-22, 26-24.
Audrina May led Oak Glen with six kills and eight digs. Kaia Parish and Lilli Cole each had four kills. Theresa Robinson had 10 assists and two aces, while Elynn Rogers added five assists and two aces. Katie Kliner recorded eight digs and two assists.
Macie Bourne had four kills for Beaver. Makayla Jungfleisch, Daisy McKnight and Sophia Pease had three kills each.
Beaver Local hosts Brooke on Thursday. Oak Glen hosts St. Clairsville today.
COLUMBIANA 3, LISBON 0
COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana’s Eva Waller recorded her 1,000th career assist in the Clippers’ 25-11, 25-10, 25-23 win over Lisbon on Tuesday.
Waller had 29 assists and four points in the win as the Clippers move to 12-0 and 8-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
Landry Smith added 12 kills, five aces and 12 points. Addisyn Dangler had 10 kills and four points. Keagan Pruitt had 12 points, nine digs, three kills and three aces. Ava Marks had four kills, seven points and seven digs.
For Lisbon, Alayna Householder had six kills. Gionna Lenigar added four kills. Addison Anderson had six points, while Hannah Davis had eight digs. Aria Reckner had five digs.
Columbiana’s jayvees won 25-13, 25-12. Adelaide Garrett had 14 points, two aces, five assists and six digs. Briley Schmidt had seven aces, four assists, nine points and two digs. Sylvia Rapp had three kills, three points and seven digs. Keegan Reynolds had seven digs.
For Lisbon, Gracyn Owens had nine assists, while Johanna Ford had seven digs.
Columbiana hosts Wellsville on Thursday. Lisbon is at Valley on Thursday.
WELLSVILLE 3, SOUTHERN LOCAL 2
WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville defeated Southern Local 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12 on Thursday.
Kenzie Bosco led Wellsville with 14 kills, 23 digs, six blocks and one ace. Madie Drysdale had nine kills, 12 digs, 13 assists and seven blocks, while Aleena Owens added nine kills, 17 digs, five aces and three blocks. Jonnah Sears recorded five kills, 17 digs, 13 assists, three aces and five blocks. Ella Betz had 17 digs and four aces, while Kaylee Kazee added six digs and three assists. Gabby Carr finished with four digs.
For Southern, Katie Kellogg had 14 points and 10 kills. Natalia Lopez had 12 points and 12 kills. Kiah Sloan had 10 points and eight kills. Eliana Forbes had 22 assists.
Wellsville is 6-7 and 3-4 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Tigers are at Columbiana on Thursday.
Southern fell to 5-9 and 3-5 in the EOAC. The Indians host United on Thursday.
