Wellsville splits
WELLSVILLE — Wellsville and East Palestine’s softball teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.
East Palestine won the first game, 5-3. Graycee Ford had three hits including a triple with two RBIs for Palestine. Alivia Magness had two hits and Kennedy Andre had a double and two RBIs. She was also the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
Makayla Landess had two doubles and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. She was also the losing pitcher with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Rylee Brown had three hits including a double and an RBI in Wellsville’s 11-10 win in the second game.
Chloe Kessler had a triple. Aleena Owens, Madilyn Drysdale and Makenzie Thompson had two hits each.
Makayla Landess was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts and three walks over five innings.
Magness had three hits including a double with two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Andre had a double, single and two RBIs.
She also was the losing pitcher with 10 strikeouts and a walk in 4 1/3 innings.
Wellsville is 5-13 and 3-9 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Tigers host Rittman in a Div. VII sectional game on Wednesday.
East Palestine is 8-9 and 6-6 in the EOAC. The Bulldogs host Kirtland in a sectional game on Wednesday.

Lash, Carney lead Oak Glen
NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Brayley Lash had a home run, double, single and two RBIs to help Oak Glen beat Monroe Central 7-0 on Saturday in regular season softball play. Mattie Carney added two triples, a single and three RBIs.
She also was the winning pitcher with 14 strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.
Oak Glen is 16-10 and awaits tournament play.

East Liverpool alumni scramble
EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool High School Alumni Association will hold its golf outing scramble May 23 at the East Liverpool Country Club.
Entry fee is $100 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, hot dog, chips and beverage at the turn, dinner following and prizes.

Proceeds will benefit the alumni association’s support of city schools veterans and the community..
Ryan Day’s son to Northwestern
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Quarterback RJ Day said he is committing to play at Northwestern beginning in 2027, putting him in line to join his father in the Big Ten Conference.
The son of Ohio State football coach Ryan Day announced his decision this weekend on social media.
“Excited for the next step and ready to get to work,” Day posted in a message thanking coaches and family.
Chip Kelly is the offensive coordinator on coach David Braun’s staff at Northwestern after serving in that role under Day when the Buckeyes won the national championship in the 2024 season. Kelly was also the offensive coordinator when Ryan Day played QB at New Hampshire and set nine school records.
RJ Day plays at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio.
