Potters to welcome 10 into Athletic Hall of Fame

EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct eight former student-athletes and two special category contributors into its Classes of 2024 and 2025.
This year’s event will take place of Sept. 18-19.
Here is a look at the honorees:
CLASS OF 2024
Mallory Schell-Wines (Class of 2004)
Mallory Schell-Wines is one of the preeminent track and field athletes in ELHS history whose name appears several times in the Potter record book. She qualified for the Ohio state track meet in 2004, while also setting the 100-meter dash record that year with a time of 12.2 seconds that still ranks first to date. Mallory is also ranked second all-time in the long jump at 16 1/2 feet and fourth all-time in both the 400-meter dash with a time of 61.1 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.6. Additionally, she was a member of the 400-meter relay team that ranks second all-time with a time of 51.2.
Eric Mabbott (Class of 1978)
Eric Mabbott is regarded by many Potter fans as one of the best to wear the blue and white, excelling in both football and basketball. On the football field, Eric was named special mention All-Ohio, first team All-County and All-OVAC, and the Area Defensive Player of the Year. On the hardwood, Eric was named honorable mention Class AAA All-Ohio and named to the Toledo Blade All-Ohio Team en route to being named Eastern District Player of the Year. Eric continued his athletic career at the University of Toledo where he lettered and started as a freshman.
Maurice Brown (Class of 1999)
Maurice Brown is widely considered one of the greatest quarterbacks to play for ELHS. He won the Bill Booth Award in 1998 as the team captain on his way to being named special mention All-Eastern District. His record as a starting quarterback was 18-3, passing for 1,653 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for ,1250 yards and 19 touchdowns. His 2,906 total yards wa a school record when he graduated, and he scored the first postseason touchdown in school history. In one game versus Steubenville, Maurice gained a total of 364 yards on offense which catapulted the Potters into the state playoffs for the first time.
Anson Wiegand (Class of 1995)
Anson Wiegand was the point guard and team leader for the Potter basketball program in the mid-1990s during the pinnacle of the program’s success. Anson was named first team All-County, All-League, All-Distric, and All-OVAC as well as being named the Division 1 District 5 Player of the Year and third team Division 1 All-Ohio. Anson captained two teams in 1994 and 1995 that were ranked fourth in Ohio in Division 1 and also won back-to-back championships in the River Valley League and OVAC. Anson was the Hi-Y Award winner and at the time was only the third basketball player in ELHS history to be selected to play in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game.
Jimmy Joe Savage (Special Category)
Jimmy Joe Savage is recognized by many Potter faithful as one of the most dedicated contributors to ELHS sports in school history. As the creator and developer of Potter Sports Online (PSO) and Potter Sports Live (PSL), Jimmy Joe has broadcasted the sports achievements of hundreds of Potter athletes over the years. His photography studio, Legacy Studio, has chronicled millions of team photos, game photos, and pictures that document Potter sports. His efforts to promote Potter sports have placed the current Potter sports website.
Bob Kelly (Special Category)
Bob Kelly is well known as the “Voice of Potter Basketball” serving as the public address announcer for more than 30 years. He was also the public address announcer and “Potter Spotter” for ELHS football for 20-plus years. Bob was a past president of the Potter Touchdown Club, a founding member of the Potter Holiday Classic, and a committee member for the first ELHS All-Class Reunion. Bob was highly instrumental in many fundraising efforts to advance ELHS sports, and was a constant source of support to Potter athletes spanning several decades of service.

CLASS OF 2025
Kevin Smith (Class of 1990)
Kevin Smith is remembered by Potter fans as a prominent two-sport athlete, excelling in football and baseball. On the football field, Kevin was named special mention Division 1 All-Ohio, first team All-Eastern District and was the MVP in the Penn-Ohio Stateline Classic. Kevin reached the top 10 in ELHS history on four separate occasions for yards passed in a single game, and is second all-time in single season passing yards (1,460) and touchdowns passed in one season (12). On the baseball field, he was honorable mention All-Ohio and first team All-OVAC and Eastern District.
Emma Ludwig (Class of 2020)
Emma Ludwig is a standout two-sport athlete for the Potters basketball and volleyball teams. As a four-year starter and letterwinner for both teams, Emma made her mark on the hardwood as a basketball player, earning special mention All-Ohio, first team All-District, first team All-OVAC. She became the third girls 1,000 point scorer in ELHS history with 1,062 points. On the volleyball court, Emma was honorable mention All-Ohio while also being named first team All-District, All-OVAC, and Buckeye 8. She finished second in Potter history with 413 total blocks and third with 766 kills. She continued her academic and athletic career at Fairmont State University earning several collegiate recognitions.
Tresean Jackson (Class of 2020)
Tresean Jackson is viewed as one of the greatest basketball players in ELHS history, currently holding the boys basketball career scoring record with 1,387 points. He also holds the ELHS record for three pointers made in a career (217). Tresean was named Second Team All-Ohio on his way to winning the Hi-Y Award and earning first team All-OVAC, All-Eastern District, All-Buckeye 8, and being named the Columbiana County and All-Area Player of the Year. He was twice named the Buckeye 8 Offensive Player of the Year and played in the Columbiana County All-Star Game. His shooting prowess places him atop of the ELHS 1,000 Point Club.
Josh Stansbury (Class of 2003)
Josh Stansbury is an accomplished four-year letterwinner for the Potter wrestling program, compiling 120 career wins, fifth all-time in school history. A two-time Ohio high school state wrestling qualifier, Josh placed fourth in Division 1 as a junior. Injuries sustained at the state meet during his senior year halted his ability to place, but he racked up several noteworthy accomplishments that season, including first-place finishes at the sectional and district meets, while also being the champion at the Top Gun meet in Alliance, the Lorain Classic, the Brooke Classic, and MVP at the Matt Salisbury Tournament. Potter fans will also remember Josh for his time as a mixed martial arts fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
