Oak Glen’s Bone puts gold around his neck

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Oak Glen senior Orien Bone did enough on his first throw to take home the gold on Friday at the first day of the West Virginia state track and field meet at Laidley Field.

Bone’s throw of 55 feet, 11 inches was more than 5 feet better than second place Charles Swain of Sissonville (50-4) in Class AA. After his first throw, Bone fouled four straight times before getting a 53-11 1/4 throw on his last attempt.

Bone came in seeded third in the discus, but fouled on three straight attempts there.

In girls competition, Oak Glen’s 3200-meter relay team of Lacey Cameron, Amelia Kampmeyer, Emma Everett and Addyson Wells was fourth in 10:41.51. Williamstown won the event in 10:11.02.

Emma Francis captured sixth in the shot put (32-2 3/4). Her best throw came on her sixth and final throw. She did not foul. In the discus, Francis was 15th (74-5).

In the boys sprinting prelims, Charles Oliver qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 200 (22.97) by taking eighth. He was also ninth in the 100 (11.57)

Oak Glen senior Logan Murray qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 110 hurdles (15.53) by taking second. He was seeded second heading into the state meet.
