Oak Glen secures state berths
WEST UNION, W.Va. — Oak Glen’s track and field teams competed in the Class AA, Region 1 meet on Wednesday at Doddridge County High School.
Individual automatic state qualifiers for the girls included Lacey Cameron in the 1600-meter run (2nd in 5:50.67) and Emma Francis in the shot put (2nd with a best throw of 33 feet, 2 inches). Francis was also fifth in the discus (102-3) and is expected to be an at-large state qualifier.
Oak Glen’s girls 3200-meter relay team of Cameron, Amelia Kampmeyer, Emma Everett and Addyson Wells won in 10:38.57.
The girls 400 relay (5th in 55.46), 800 relay (4th in 1:57.86) and 1600 relay (3rd in 4:28.22) are expected to be at-large state qualifiers.
In the boys competition, individual automatic qualifiers include Logan Murray who won the 110 hurdles in 15.36 and the long jump with a best leap of 21-9. Charles Oliver was second in the 100 (11.29) and is expected to be an at-large qualifier in the 200 (3rd in 23.11). Orien Bone won in the shot put (56-9.5) and was second in the discus (143-8).
Oak Glen’s 400 relay team of Murray, Mason Kell, Chance Ripley and Oliver won in 44.43 and the 1600 team of Kell, Gavin Geisse, Oliver and Murray won in 3:34.56.
The West Virginia state track meet is set for May 22-23 at Laidley Field in Charleston.
