NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Oak Glen’s track and field team has a really strong chance at bringing home some hardware on Friday and Saturday at the West Virginia state track and field meet at Laidley Field in Charleston.

A lot of that strength starts in the field events.

Senior Logan Murray enters the state meet with the top seeded distance in Class AA in the long jump at 21 feet, 9 inches. His season best is 22-0.

Junior Orien Bone is seeded first in the shot put at 56-9 1/2, while he’s third in the discus with a seed distance of 143-8. Bone hit his personal best 153-0 at the Brooke Relays on April 24.

Murray will likely have more opportunities to get on the podium in the running events. He’s seeded second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.36) and hit a personal best 15.03 on May 13 at the OVAC meet. In the 400 and 1600 relays the Golden Bears are both seeded third and Murray will be a big part of those efforts.

Sprinter Charles Oliver will have excellent chances to get on the podium in the 100 and 200 as he is seeded fourth and seventh respectively in those events.

On the girls side, Emma Francis is seeded fifth in the shot put and eighth in the discus. The distance relay events are also both seeded in the top five. Cameron Lacey gives the Golden Bear girls a shot in the 1600 as she is seeded eighth.

The meet will commence at noon on Friday with the boys Class AA shot put. The first running event final is at 12:15 p.m. with the girls Class AA 3200 relay. The last event of the day is the boys 3200 run set for 7:35 p.m.

Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m. with the Class AA boys pole vault finals. The first running event of the day in Class AA is the girls 400 finals set for 9:35 a.m.

The award ceremony is set for 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
