NEW MIDDLETOWN — Five area athletes won individual events at the Springfield Division V regional track and field meet Saturday.

Heartland Christian sophomore Clair Liposky, Lisbon sophomore Brooklynn Klein, Leetonia sophomore Graydon Henderson and East Palestine junior RJ May all had personal bests to win their events.

Heartland Christian Senior Rebecca Geiss also won the 1600 run Saturday to go along with her 3200 district title on Thursday. Geiss added a second in the 800 run on Saturday.

The top four boys and top two girls in each event advance to the Cuyahoga Heights regional meet on Thursday and Saturday.

Liposky won the girls discus with a toss of 139-feet-2, almost 30 feet ahead of the next best thrower.

Liposky’s toss is the best by a Columbiana County girl since 2019 when Salem’s Caitlyn Marx threw 148-0. Marx went on to be the Division II state runner-up.

Klein won the girls long jump by leaping 15-4 1/2. She was the runner-up in the high jump on Thursday.

Area boys swept the hurdles with Henderson in the 110s (16.50) and May in the 300s (42.80).

Aiden Davis was the lone qualifier for the Southern boys, finishing second in the shot put.
