Beaver’s Curtis equals state homer record

CALCUTTA — Sophomore Brylee Curtis bashed a state record four home runs and had six RBIs in Beaver Local’s 12-1 win over Edison in five innings on Tuesday.

According to records kept by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, Curtis is the 11th Ohio girls softball player to hit four homers in a game. Lisbon’s Justyce Vrable also did that against Columbiana in 2019.

Curtis has six of Beaver Local’s 18 home runs this season. She is second on the team with a .431 battings average and leads the team with 26 RBIs.

Curtis hit a two-run home run in the first, led off the third with a solo home run, added a solo home run in the fourth and hit a two run shot in the fifth to end the game on a mercy rule.

Addie Thurik also homered for Beaver Local while adding a double and three RBIs. Mya Anderson had a double, two singles and three RBIs.

Thurik was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and a walk in five innings. She is 8-2 on the season with a 2.20 ERA.

Beaver Local is 14-3 on the season and has won nine out of the last 10 games.

The Beavers lead the OVAC Class 4A standings, while Edison was second.

The cut-off date for the tournament is Friday.

Beaver Local hosts Martins Ferry today.

Oak Glen 18, Indian Creek 3

WINTERSVILLE — Oak Glen hit seven home runs as it clocked Indian Creek 18-3 on Tuesday.

Brayley Lash and Mattie Carney had two home runs each for the Bears, while Danica Holden, Kylie Robinson and Mikayln Balch also homered.

Oak Glen had seven home runs as a team coming into the game.

Carney and Macy Hartung had triples.

Carney was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts and a walk in five innings.

Oak Glen is 13-5 and will be at Wheeling Park today.
