CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s boys basketball team is a different beast with senior Owen Hill in the lineup.

Using Hill’s 19 points, the No. 4 seeded Beavers rolled past No. 8 Minerva 59-36 on Friday.

Hill was back in the lineup after resting a foot injury in the Beavers’ regular season finale against South Range on Feb. 17. With Hill in the lineup the Beavers are an impressive 14-3. Without Hill they are 3-3.

Beaver Local (17-6) will play No. 5 seed Carrollton at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Steubenville. The other district semifinal will pit No. 9 seed East Liverpool against No. 1 seed and defending state champion Maysville at the ECO Center.

Nicolas McKenzie, Aiden Dray, Matt Anderson and Luke Rettos all had eight points for the Beavers.

Rowen Hoffee had 11 points for the Lions, 12-11.

Carrollton was a 67-58 winner over Beaver Local in the regular season on Jan. 3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Oak Glen 47, Ravenswood 35

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Oak Glen’s girls basketball team will play for a spot at the state tournament following a 47-35 win over Ravenswood on Friday in Class AA, Region 1 tournament action.

The fourth seeded Golden Bears led 17-3 after the first quarter and 34-13 at the half. A late charge by fifth seeded Ravenwood made the score closer than it was.

Oak Glen is 13-10 and will travel to top seed Williamstown on Thursday. The winner will advance to the state tournament.

Oak Glen lost to Williamstown 51-18 on Dec. 29 at Williamstown.
