Wellsville downs Indians; Potters, Beavers also win

WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville was glad to have junior guard Darnell Roe back after a six-game absence due to an injury on Tuesday against rival Southern.
Roe managed 19 points, including 11 in the second half, to lead the Tigers to a 56-40 win on a night when the team shot 32 percent from the field.
The Tigers (3-5, 3-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) struggled against Southern's zone in the first half. The Indian led 10-9 after the first quarter and managed to be within 1 of the Tigers at halftime.
"We picked up the intensity at halftime and played the way we needed to," Wellsville coach Nate Scott said.
Austin Adkins added 17 points, eight steals and five assists for Wellsville. Clayten Kersey chipped in seven points and eight rebounds. Jeron Jackson had five points and six rebounds.
Senior Jacob McCurdy had 16 points to lead the Indians, 1-6 and 0-5 in the EOAC.
Wellsville won the two quarter jayvee game, 27-6. Zac Banks had nine points for the Tigers.
Wellsville will play Bridgeport at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Toronto Todd Kalivoda Showcase.
Southern is at East Canton on Jan. 3.

WINTERSVILLE -- East Liverpool's boys basketball team had to come back to beat Indian Creek 46-43 on Tuesday.
The Potters trailed 17-11 after a quarter and 25-15 at the half.
Sophomore Tyler Kirby paced the winners with 13 points. Nolan Irving added nine points as did Ben Myers.
East Liverpool is 4-2 and hosts Martins Ferry on Saturday.
Indian Creek is 1-5.

WELLSBURG, W.Va. -- Beaver Local extended its unbeaten run to start the season with a 65-58 win over Brooke on Tuesday in Buckeye 8 play.
The Beavers are 7-0 and will be at St. Clairsville on Saturday.
Matthew Anderson led the winners with 22 points. Owen Hill added 13 points, while Aidan Dray had 11 points.
Brooke won the junior varsity game, 52-48.
For the Beavers, Jett Johnson had 15 points, Owen Moore 12 and Nathan Pusateri 11.

Lisbon 68, Columbiana 55
COLUMBIANA -- The Ramgeet brothers combined for 46 points in leading Lisbon past previously-unbeaten Columbiana, 68-55, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday.
Sophomore Aidan Ramgeet totaled a career-high 26 points and senior AJ Ramgeet added 20 points and 10 assists for the Blue Devils, who improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the EOAC.
Blaine Barnes added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists. Logan Sturgeon had nine points, including a key basket late in the fourth quarter, and eight rebounds. Ashton Hinchliffe grabbed eight rebounds.
Columbiana dropped to 7-1 and 4-1 in the EOAC. Valley Christian leads the league with a 5-0 record.
Lisbon led 58-53 and held Columbiana to two points in the final 3 1/2 minutes to pull away.
Aidan Ramgeet had a driving layup with 2:20 remaining and was 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 75 seconds to secure the victory.
Lisbon led by nine points in the first and second quarters, but Columbiana came back and tied the score at 41-41 and 43-43 late in the third quarter.
Cooper Brown topped the Clippers with 18 points. Hunter Davanzo contributed 16 points and Senator Johnson nine.
Columbiana will play at Lakeview on Dec. 30, while Lisbon travels to Heartland Christian on Jan. 3.
