Phillips brother won’t be back at YSU

NEWARK — Youngstown State football head coach Doug Phillips will be without his brother, Tom, on the staff next season.

Tom Phillips, who served as Youngstown State’s Chief of Staff, was hired to be the head coach of Newark Catholic on Thursday.

Tom Phillips has head coaching experience at Pickerington North and Stow-Munroe Falls.

Southern rolls

KENSINGTON — The Southern Local bowling teams split a match with Maplewood on Thursday at Forest Lanes.

The Southern Local boys earned a 1,548-1,488 victory over Maplewood. Mason Sosack led the Indians with a 160 game and 319 series.

In the girls match, Maplewood defeated Southern Local 1,349-1,117.

Kylie Board paced the Indians with a 132 high game and 250 series.
