Area players mentioned on All-Ohio
COLUMBIANA — Crestview’s volleyball team made a run to its seventh straight regional tournament this season and for that two of its top players were honored as members of the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Div. V All-Ohio teams.
Senior Lainy Auer completed one of the best careers in Crestview volleyball history and was named a first team All-Ohioan for the second straight season.
“Lainy has had an unbelievable career over her four years as a starter at Crestview,” said mother and coach Alisha Auer. “She started out as a setter and finished as a six rotation outside who led the state in kills. Her court knowledge and ability to read other teams defense and block make her one of the best hitters I have coached. She has amazing ball control and consistency plays at a very high level. Her 46 kills against Boardman is a record that will last a very long time. ”
According to statistics reported to MaxPreps, Auer ranks first in Ohio in number of kills (648) and eighth in kill percentage (.467). She added 62 aces, 26 blocks and 290 digs for the Rebels who went 22-4 and won an outright Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Division title.
For her career, Auer played 336 sets and had 1,278 kills with a kill percentage of .461. She added 249 aces and an an ace percentage of 19.3. She totaled 78 blocks and 955 digs. As a setter during the early part of her Crestview career, she had 1,083 assists.
Senior setter Sophia Stewart was named to the third team.
Stewart had 824 assists on the season which ranked seventh in Div. V in the state of Ohio according to MaxPreps. Stewart added 51 kills, 71 aces, 15 blocks and 214 digs.
For her career, Stewart had 1,427 assists which is an average of 8.4 per set played.
“Sophia is an exceptional volleyball player who has been a huge part of our success the past two seasons,” Alisha Auer said. “She is a great setter but also one of our best defenders and serve receivers. Sophie’s leadership and work ethic will be missed next year.”
East Liverpool senior Ava Green, Beaver Local senior Eva McKnight and Beaver Local senior setter Bria Boyd were all named honorable mention in Div. IV.
Green had 418 kills, 26 aces, 24 blocks, 291 digs and 11 assists for the 17-8 Potters. Green ended her career with 1,098 kills, 588 digs and 51 aces.
McKnight recorded 221 kills, three aces, 31 blocks and 25 digs for the 22-3 Beavers who won an OVAC title this season. Boyd had 758 assists this season and ended her career with 1,249. She added 177 digs and 71 assists this season.
