Tigers tussle with Blue Devils

LISBON — Lisbon swept its way to a three-set victory Thursday, defeating Wellsville 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Maddie Marshalek led the Blue Devils with 11 kills. Addison Anderson added seven kills and five digs, while Brooklynn Klein chipped in three kills, two aces and a block. Hannah Davis finished with nine digs, Abby Ammon had five digs, six points and two aces, and Kylyn Boyd recorded five digs. Setter Stefanee Stacey had a standout night with 21 assists, seven kills, 18 points and three aces.
Wellsville scored the opening point for its only lead of the first game. Leading 9-7, Lisbon began to take control with conecutive service winners by Brooklyn Klein and tip for a point by Stacey. Alayna Householder and Addison Anderson had back-to-back kills to give the Blue Devils a 19-14 lead. Wellsville got no closer than three points in the first game.
Lisbon is 9-8 and 7-5 in the EOAC. Wellsville is 4-13 and 3-9 in the conference.
Both teams play Monday with Lisbon at Toronto on Monday and Wellsville at East Liverpool.

Brooke 0
WELLSBURG, W.Va. — Beaver Local swept Brooke on the road Thursday with a three-set varsity win, 25-15, 25-12, 25-15.
Addie Thurik led the Beavers with 14 kills and three digs. Bailee Baker added three kills and one dig, while Bria Boyd directed the attack with 33 assists, three aces and four digs. Eva McKnight chipped in nine kills, Giada Williams had six kills and two blocks, and Karsyn Bowyer anchored the defense with 17 digs and two aces. Lily Schrieber contributed two kills and six digs, Perri Gilson recorded six digs and two aces, Sydney McNear had seven kills and three digs, Taylor Pease added eight digs and two aces, and Sydney Wilson-Plunkett had six digs and two aces.
Beaver Local is 15-1.
The Beaver jayvees opened the night with a 25-16, 25-10 win. Gianna Congrove had six kills and four digs, Macie Bourne tallied five kills, Sophia Gibson had two kills and four digs, and Madi Gaydos finished with nine digs.
Beaver Local will compete Saturday in the Buckeye 8 Championship at the ECO Center in St. Clairsville. The Beavers will play at 4:45 p.m. against Union Local, which beat St. Clairsville 3-0 Thursday.

Indian Creek 1
EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool is going deep into the bench with setter Kamryn Yanni injured and backup setter Kendall Martin sick.
Sophomore setter Ella Gunning made her first varsity start and freshman Lillie White also helped out in leading the Potters past Indian Creek, 25-14, 20-25, 25-14, 25-12, Thursday. Gunning totaled 38 assists and two aces, while White had four aces and two kills.
Ava Green totaled 26 kills and four blocks, Hailey Board two aces, nine kills and two blocks, Addie Jones seven kills, Presley Jones seven aces and four kills and Ayla Riggle two aces, one kill, three assists and 14 digs.
East Liverpool improves to 12-4 and is the second seed in the Buckeye 8. East Liverpool will compete in a Buckeye 8 crossover match against St. Clairsville at 3 p.m. Saturday at the ECO Center in St. Clairsville.
The Potters also won the junior varsity match, 25-23, 25-10, as Peyton Tanner had four aces and 19 assists, Koli Spencer eight kills, Taylor Loedding five aces and Maddie Campbell and Addie Smith each had four kills.

Valley Christian 0
SALINEVILLE — After a 1-4 start, Southern is making up ground.
The Indians pounded Valley Christian, 25-18, 25-6, 25-10, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Thursday.
Brooke Boyle topped Southern with 14 points and five digs. Haylee Kellogg contributed 11 points, three kills and 18 assists, Katie Kellogg seven points and five kills, Kalayah Crute seven kills and two blocks, Natalia Lopez four kills and two blocks; Allyssa Shroades five points, 14 assists and eight kills, and Emma Boyle and Gracie Lee each had two kills.
The Indians are 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the EOAC. They will host River today.
Southern also won the junior varsity match, 25-12, 25-8, as Emma Boyle had 13 points and two kills. Jocy Richards added nine points and Khloe Ensinger seven points and four kills.

Leetonia 0
COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s volleyball team won at least a share of its third straight Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title with a 25-4, 25-11, 25-9 win over Leetonia on Thursday.
Columbiana is 15-1 and 12-0 in the league.
