Beavers work as a team

EAST LIVERPOOL — Beaver Local’s volleyball team put it all together for a 25-11, 25-22, 25-23 win over East Liverpool on Tuesday.

For the Beavers, Eva McKnight led with 14 kills and two blocks, Sydney McNear added 10 kills and a block, and Lily Schrieber had nine kills, six assists, two aces, 19 digs and a block. Bria Boyd contributed three kills, 32 assists, two aces and nine digs, Giada Williams nine kills and three digs, Karsyn Bowyer 10 digs and two assists, Perri Gilson 11 digs, Taylor Pease five digs and an ace, and Addie Thurik four kills.

It was the second straight win over the Potters for the Beavers (5-0) dating back to last season. East Liverpool is 4-2.

“The atmosphere and energy was amazing. Our team really came together as one tonight! It really feels great, especially being my senior year,” Williams said.

“The energy and grit our team came out with tonight played a huge role in the outcome,” Boyd said. “While we have some very strong hitters, I believe our defense creates so many opportunities to set up those key kills.”

For the Potters, Kamryn Yanni had 14 assists and two aces. Presley Jones added three kills and a block. Addy Jones had two kills and a block. Kendall Martin had four kills and a block. Ava Green had nine kills and three blocks. Hailey Board had two kills and three blocks, while Ayla Riggle added 16 digs.

Beaver Local’s junior varsity won 25-17, 25-14. Madison Poppelriter and Macie Bourne each had five kills, Sophia Gibson added four kills and 12 digs, and Leah Schrieber had two kills, 14 assists and five digs.

For East Liverpool, Ella Gunning had four assists and Addie Smith had four kills.

The Beaver freshman team started the night with a 25-21, 25-18 win. Jessica Layman and Katie Miller had four kills each, Makayla Jungfleisch added five kills and seven digs, Gianna Congrove had five assists and two aces, and Giada Circelli led with four aces.

For the Beavers, Maddie Campbell had three kills, while Brilynn Jones had five assists and three aces.

Beaver Local will play at Buckeye Local on Thursday.

East Liverpool is at Brooke on Thursday.

Wellsville 3, Lisbon 2

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville downed Lisbon 25-20, 13-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-10 on Tuesday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.

For Lisbon, Maddie Marshalek had 14 kills and 13 digs. Stefanee Stacey added 27 assists and six kills. Alayna Househoulder had five kills and five digs. Hannah Davis added 15 digs. Marshalek also surpassed 500 kills for her career.

Lisbon (3-4, 2-3 in the EOAC) travels to United Thursday.

Wellsville is 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.

The Tigers host Toronto today.

Southern 3, Valley 0

YOUNGSTOWN — Southern swept Valley Christian, 25-6, 25-11, 25-14, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday.

The Indians improve to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the EOAC.

Southern got a balanced effort as Haylee Kellogg had 15 points, six aces and 16 assists; Allyssa Shroades 12 points, four aces, 12 assists and six kills; Katie Kellogg eight points, two aces and 12 kills; Natalia Lopez seven points and two kills; Kiah Sloan and Kalayah Crute each with eight kills; Brooke Boyle six digs; and Addy Martin and Maddy Tsesmilles each had five digs.

Southern also won the junior varsity match, 25-7, 25-20. Mary Beadnell had 21 points, four aces and four kills and Emerson Gotschall four points and four kills for the Indians.

Both teams return to league play Thursday as Southern hosts Leetonia and Valley travels to Wellsville.

Mount Lebanon Tournament

MT. LEBANON, Pa. — Oak Glen competed Saturday at the Mt. Lebanon Tournament, finishing pool and re-pool play with four wins, two losses and a split before falling in the opening round of bracket play.

In pool play, the Golden Bears lost to Pine-Richland 25-14, then defeated Mt. Lebanon 25-14 and Bethel Park 25-16. In re-pool play, Oak Glen fell to Peters Township 15-12, 18-16, defeated Pine-Richland 15-13, 16-14, and split with Frazier 15-17, 15-5. In tournament play, Oak Glen dropped a 25-21 decision to Hampton.

Averi Martin led Oak Glen at the net, finishing with 28 kills on the day. Brooklyn Six had 18 kills, Brayley Lash eight, and Haylee Stewart 12. Setter Mikalyn Balch recorded 76 assists. Defensively, Keira Vick led with 29 digs, with support from Kendall Six and Layla Skavenski.
