Beaver Local ups record to 8-0
STEUBENVILLE — No one has been able to keep up with the Beaver Local volleyball team this season.
The Beavers improved to 8-0 and have won 22 straight games after sweeping Steubenville, 25-21, 25-16, and Weir, 25-21, 25-8, at the Crimson Center on Saturday.
Beaver Local leaders against Steubenville were Addie Thurik with 10 kills, Bria Boyd 30 assists and six digs, Eva McKnight seven kills, Giada Williams three kills, Karsyn Bowyer three aces and 12 digs, Lily Schrieber four kills and 10 digs, Sydney McNear nine kills and Taylor Pease had four digs.
Against Weirton, Beaver Local’s Bria Boyd had three kills, 14 assist and four digs, Eva McKnight and Giada Williams each had six kills, Karsyn Bowyer five digs, Lily Schrieber 12 digs, Sydney McNear three kills and three digs and Perri Gilson three digs.
In the other match, Steubenville beat Weir, 25-23, 25-16.
Beaver Local also won both junior varsity matched, beating Steubenville, 25-11, 25-19, as Madison Poppelriter was the leading server and Gianna Congrove led the attack line, and then downing Weir, 25-23, 25-14.
Beaver Local returns to action today with the freshmen hosting Canfield at 4:30 p.m., followed by the junior varsity and varsity matches against Brooke.
Oak Glen at Shaler Area Tournament
PITTSBURGH — The Oak Glen volleyball team went 1-2-1 in tournament play at Shaler Area High School on Saturday.
The Golden Bears defeated McKeesport, 25-21, 25-11, as Averi Martin had five kills. Brayley Lash had four kills, Brooklyn Six and Haylee Stewart each had three kills. Mikalyn Balch 15 assists, Brooklyn Six four aces, Kendall Six two aces, and Keira Vick and Kendall Six each had three digs.
Oak Glen split with Deer Lakes, 25-20, 20-25. Brooklyn Six had eight kills, Averi Martin three kills, Haylee Stewart and Braley Lash each had two kills, Mikalyn Balch 13 assists, Kendall Six five digs and Keira Vick two digs.
Oak Glen also split with Shaler Area, 22-25, 25-23. Brooklyn Six had nine kills, Averi Martin sis kills, Brayley Lash and Haylee Stewart each had four kills, Mattie Carney two kills, Mikalyn Balch 20 assists, Keira Vick five digs, Kendall Six three digs and Ellie Smith two digs.
In the tournament gold bracket, Maplewood beat Oak Glen, 25-21. For the Golden Bears, Averi Martin had four kills, Brooklyn Six and Brayley Lash each had three kills, Mikalyn Balch 10 assists and Keira Vick eight digs.
Oak Glen is 11-5-3 on the season and will host Boardman on Thursday.
