Beavers shine against Edison
CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s volleyball team swept Edison 25-11, 25-10, 25-16 on Thursday.
Eva McKnight had six kills and an ace, Giada Williams added six kills and a block, Karsyn Bowyer contributed three digs and three aces, Lily Schrieber had six kills, four aces and eight digs, Sydney McNear recorded four kills, Perri Gilson added seven digs, and Bria Boyd had two kills, three aces, 22 assists and two digs.
The Beaver jayvee team won 25-8, 25-18 behind Addie Thurik with four kills and five aces, Leah Schrieber with six kills and nine assists, Madison Poppelriter with three kills, two aces and four digs, Makayla Jungfleisch with three kills, one ace and three digs, and Katie Miller with three kills.
Beaver Local (2-0) returns to action Monday at Indian Creek.
Lisbon 3, Valley 0
LISBON — Lisbon’s volleyball team picked up a straight set sweep of Valley Christian on Thursday.
For the Devils, Maddie Marshelak had nine kills, while Addison Anderson added six kills. Stefanee Stacey and Gionna Leniger had five kills each. Stacey had 15 assists, while Abby Ammon added 12 aces.
Lisbon won the jayvee portion in two sets. Gracyn Owens had 12 aces, two kills and six assists. Brooklyn Klein had three kills and five aces.
Lisbon (1-1, 1-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) is at Leetonia on Tuesday.
United 3, Southern 2
SALINEVILLE — United remained unbeaten in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference by outlasting Southern, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 15-9, Thursday.
The Eagles are 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the EOAC. The Indians drop to 1-2 and 1-1.
For the Eagles, Maelee Smith had 10 kills, while Baylee Smith had 27 digs. Tessa Clunen had seven kills.
Allyssa Shroades and Addy Martin each served 18 points for the Indians. Shroades added 20 assists and five kills and Martin had four digs.
Natalia Lopez contributed 10 points, eight kills and two blocks, Kiah Sloan nine kills and three blocks, Kalayah Crute seven kills and three solo bocks, Haylee Kellogg 22 assists and Brooke Boyle nine points and two aces.
United also won the junior varsity match, 25-10, 25-18. For the Eagels, Scarlett Courtney had six aces and 12 points. Callie Koons had three kills. Miley Pitts had four aces and eight digs.
Southern’s Emerson Gotschall hsd seven points and two aces.
United will play at Salem on Saturday, while Southern travels to Heartland Christian on Monday.
Columbiana 3, Wellsville 0
WELLSVILLE — Columbiana’s volleyball team made it a clean sweep of Wellsville 26-24, 25-13, 25-10 on Thursday.
For the Clippers (3-0 and 2-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference), Evy Rapp had four kills, three aces, 13 points and 12 digs. Eva Waller had two killsm two aces and 25 assists. Landry Smith had 11 kills, two blocks and seven points. Addisyn Dangler had 12 kills and nine points. Lily Jackson had four aces, 10 points and five digs.
Columbiana is at Springfield on Saturday.
