Potters trek to state
NEW CONCORD — The East Liverpool boys 3200-meter relay team is on a record pace.
The Potters’s team of Quintin Conrad, Brody Vulgamore, Maddox Roach and Julius Jones set school and meet records in winning the Division II regional title Thursday at Muskingum University.
Their time of 7 minutes, 51.42 seconds is believed to be the best in Columbiana County history as they earned a return trip to the state meet. Their time would have placed second in the Division II state meet last year.
The Potters bettered their district time of 8:06.62 and the school record of 8:06.0 set in 2003.
The top four finishers in each event advance to the state track meet June 6-7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
The Potters will race for the state title at 1:45 p.m. next Friday.
Minerva also advanced the boys and girls 3200-meter relay teams. The Minerva girls were second in 9:31.76, while the boys were third in 8:01.21. Both times are school records.
The regional meet concludes Saturday with the remaining field events at 11 a.m. and the running finals at 12:30 p.m.
