SALINEVILLE — St. Thomas Aquinas eliminated Southern Local 2-0 in Div. VI sectional baseball play on Friday.

Mason Pitts and Brody Brown had two hits each for No. 25 seed Southern, 2-17.

Brown took the loss with seven strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

No. 26 seed St. Thomas (3-16) advances to meet No. 2 seed Kirtland in the district semifinal on Wednesday.

East Palestine 3

STRUTHERS — The Rittman Indians subdued East Palestine 5-3 in a Div. VI district contest on Friday night at Cene Park.

East Palestine led 3-0 in the fifth, but the Indians scored five in the seventh to pull out the win.

No. 12 seed East Palestine falls to 16-10.

No. 17 sed Rittman is 13-15 and will host No. 24 seed Oberlin on Wednesday in the district semifinal.

Wellsville forfeits

Wellsville’s baseball team forfeited its Div. VII sectional contest with Windham on Friday.

Wellsville had a senior trip to Kennywood amusement park on Friday and could not field a team.

Windham, the ninth seed, will take on the winner of Maplewood and Fairport Harding in the district semifinal.

The Tigers were not the only team to forfeit in Div. VII, Northeast 2 bracket on Friday.

Kinsman Badger also forfeited against Bristol.
