Beavers have eye for success

CALCUTTA –Calleigh Eells blasted a two-run home run with two outs in the fifth inning to give Beaver Local’s softball team a 6-5 win over Buckeye Local on Thursday.
The Beavers fell behind 5-0 in the first before rallying to their sixth straight win, improving to 10-2 on the season.
Brylee Curtis sparked the Beaver Local offense with three hits including a double. Lora Reeder also hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Tatum Duncan had two hits as well.
Megan Henrich grabbed the win with six strikeouts and no walks in 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Ciara Call started the game and went 2 1/3 innings and had five earned runs. She added two strikeouts and three walks.
Two batters after Call moved to center field, she made an outstanding running catch to end the third inning, stranding Buckeye Local runners on second and third.
The inning before, Eells, the starting center fielder, threw out a Buckeye Local runner at home for the third out, leaving the score 5-1.
The Panthers opened the game with singles by Tatum Walker and Missy Smith and two walks. With the bases loadd, Beaver Local second baseman Lora Reeder fielded a grounder and threw to catcher Brylee Curtis for the forceout at home.
Madison Roset’s single to the center field scored two runs for a 3-0 Panther lead. Another run scored on a fielder’s choice and a triple by Bella Russell scored Roset for a 5-0 lead.
The play of Buckeye Local freshman center fielder Necia Hosenfeld limited Beaver Local to one run in the first two innings. She reached high to catch a fly ball for the second out and followed with a diving catch for the third out with runners on second and third.
After the first two Beavers in the second inning walked, Hosenfeld made running catches on line drives on consecutive pitches to keep the score 5-1.
Ally Wright’s two-out single in the third inning scored Curtis to pull the Beavers within 5-2. That set the stage for home runs by Reeder and Eells for the victory.
Beaver Local is scheduled to play at Buckeye Local (6-8) on Saturday.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Riley Bruce had two hits and Maddie Murray added a double as Oak Glen beat Webster Thomas of New York 2-0 on Thursday at the Ripken Experience.
Mattie Carney got the win with four strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.
Oak Glen (17-8) wraps up its Myrtle Beach trip with two games today — Webster Schroeder of New York and Millville of New Jersey.

Lisbon 5, St. Thomas 1
LOUISVILLE — Brooklyn Dailey went 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead Lisbon to a 5-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday.
Kamryn Peruchetti and Delaney Pickens had doubles for the Devils.
Peruchetti was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts and no walk.
Lisbon (5-9) hosts Chaney on Saturday.

Madonna 13, East Liverpool 2
EAST LIVERPOOL — Addie Jones had three doubles, but East Liverpool was sent to a 13-2 defeat by Madonna in six innings on Thursday at Patterson Field.
Trinity Pearson added a triple for the Potters.
Cate Davis took the loss with two strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
East Liverpool (0-14) is at Brooke today.

HANOVERTON — Callie Coons had a single, double and two RBIs to lead United to a 10-0 win over East Palestine on Thursday.
Kendall Erb had a double and an RBI for the Eagles, 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
Payten Kekel gave up only one hit and had nine strikeouts plus no walks in the winning effort.
Alivia Magness had a hit for East Palestine.
Magness was also the losing pitcher with two strikeouts and four walks.
United is at Wellsville for two games today.
East Palestine is supposed to host Campbell today.
