HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Oak Glen had two shots at bringing home state titles on Saturday at the Class AA/A West Virginia state wrestling tournament but the Golden Bears had to settle for second in both title matches.

Experienced senior Hayden Lamb, making his fourth appearance at state, suffered a 2-0 defeat to East Fairmont’s Blake Ringer in the 144-pound final. Ringer, who is ranked No. 1 by the West Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association, was the Region 1 champ where Lamb was third.

Lamb, ranked third in his weight class, ends his senior season at 31-9. Ringer is 48-2.

At 285 pounds, No. 2 ranked Oak Glen senior Noah Schmidt fell to third-ranked Connor Facemire of Herbert Hoover by a 12-3 major decision in the final.

Schmidt ended his final campaign at 43-8, while Facemire is 48-5.

Another highly experienced senior Greg Sauers took care of business on Saturday with two wins to take third at 190. Sauers bested Shady Springs’ Gabe Knoblet 7-0 in the consolation final.

Sauers is 45-14.

The Bears also earned a pair of fourth-place finishes. Senior Aiden Anderson (34-18) wrapped up his career by taking fourth at 113. Anderson lost the consolation final by a 13-3 major decision to Williamstown’s Aiden Meeks. Junior Logan Graham (26-17) outperformed his ranking significantly by taking fourth at 138. Graham, ranked ninth, lost a 10-2 major decision to unranked Cameron’s Marshall Crow in the consolation final.

Junior Wyatt Wolanski (27-12) took sixth at 132 pounds.

Finishing sixth for the Golden Bears was sophomore Jordan Tomsic (33-17) at 106 pounds.

Notes

¯ Oak Glen finished fourth in Class AA/A with 125 points. Point Pleasant won with 164.5 points. Herbert Hoover was second with 142 points, while Cameron was third with 126 points.

¯ Most outstanding wrestler in Class AA was Josh Woyan of Point Pleasant. Coach of the year went to Richard Harper of Herbert Hoover.
