LISBON — The Columbiana County Comets Special Olympics basketball team soared to another victory Thursday night.

The Comets topped the Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities All-Stars, 46-35, at Nace Gymnasium.

Bryan Weingart paced the Comets with 19 points, followed by Lucas Rhodes with 16.

The CCBDD All-Stars were led by Michael Newman, an individual served by the agency who recently joined the board of directors, with 13 points.

The game celebrated the 70th year anniversary of the Robert Bycroft School.

They finished the regular season with a 5-7 record, but won two playoff games before losing by four in the area finals, falling just short of qualifying for the state championships.

The Comets also won the junior varsity game, 22-12, Thursday as Cody Jackson led the way with six points.

The Comets are coached by Rich Dennison, Ivan Monroy, and Renee Jackson.

Starting at $2.99/week.
