A big Ohio rivalry
ALLIANCE — Forget about Ohio State-Michigan, Saturday will be another Mount Union-John Carroll showdown.
Mount Union (10-0) will host John Carroll (9-2) in an NCAA Division III second-round playoff game at Kehres Stadium at noon Saturday. Gates will open at 10:30 a.m.
Mount Union beat John Carroll, 37-31, on Sept. 21 in a game that featured six lead changes.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for students and are available at hometownticketing.com.
Saturday’s meeting will be the fourth time the schools have faced each other in the NCAA playoffs, the most recent in 2014 when the Purple Raiders won, 36-28, in the quarterfinals. Mount Union also won the other two meetings in the 2002 semifinals (57-19) and the 1997 quarterfinals (59-7).
Lions clock Bears
DETROIT (AP) — Jared Goff threw two touchdown passes to Sam LaPorta, Jake Bates made three field goals in the first half and the Detroit Lions held off the Chicago Bears 23-20 on Thursday to extend their winning streak to 10 games.
The Lions snapped a seven-game losing streak on Thanksgiving.
The Bears had the ball in Lions territory late in the game with a chance to drive for a game-tying field goal or go-ahead touchdown, but they blew the opportunity.
