DALTON -- Southern's softball team reached the end of the line as it dropped a 6-0 decision to Mogadore in a Div. IV district final on Thursday at Howard J. Wenger Field.
Southern (11-8) was limited to one hit -- a single by Kennedy Lewis -- in the defeat.
Mogadore's Katie Gardner struck out 13 and walked two in the win. She threw 111 pitches and 71 for strikes.
The Wildcats tallied four runs in the bottom of the second to get going and never looked back.
Alexis Ensinger took the loss for Southern, the No. 11 seed, as she struck out three and walked two. Only two of Ensigner's charged runs were earned.
Ensinger threw 94 pitches and 58 were for strikes. She also hit two batters.
Mogadore, the No. 2 seed, is 17-6. The Wildcats will meet No. 13 seed Canton Central Catholic at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Roehm Athletic Complex in Berea in the regional semifinal.

Maplewood 10, Lisbon 0
CORTLAND -- Maplewood scored seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 10-0 win over Lisbon in six innings in a Div. IV sectional final.
Bryce Esarey took the loss for the Devils as he gave up nine earned runs while striking out eight and walking four.
Aiden Myers and Esarey had hits for Lisbon, 11-9.
No. 11 seed Maplewood (14-4) will meet No. 2 seed Warren JFK at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Waddell Park in Niles in a district semifinal.

Mapleton 6, Heartland 2
ASHLAND -- Ashland Mapleton rallied late to dump Heartland 6-2 in a Div. IV sectional final on Thursday.
Heartland, the 16th seed, ends its season at 10-14, while Mapleton, the 12th seed, moves on to meet Jeromesville Hillsdale, the third seed, in the district semifinal on Tuesday at Cuyahoga Community College in Parma.
Heartland took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a Jack Morgan hit that scored two runs. Mapleton countered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and a home run in the bottom of the sixth to put it out of reach.
Jake Walker took the loss for Heartland as he struck out one and walked one in five innings. Heartland managed four hits -- singles by Owen Bender, Drew Gault, Will Morgan and Jack Morgan.
