NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. -- Weirton Madonna scored five runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to beat Oak Glen, 11-4, in Wednesday's season opener.
"We played pretty well today. This was our second time getting outside, so we showed some rust," Madonna coach T.J. Miller said. "Our pitchers did pretty well, but we need to work harder on limiting our walks."
For Madonna, L. Nagy two singles and two runs. G. Wilharm drove in three runs and M. Parker two. T.J Decapio -- who transferred from Oak Glen in the fall -- and M. Geer each scored two runs for Madonna.
"At the plate, we need to improve on our approaches with various counts and executing with runners in scoring position," Miller said. "I loved our energy, and we did what we needed to do today to earn a win. We knew coming in Oak Glen is a young ball club, but they are coached very well. Overall, I was pleased with our performance today and I am proud of my boys."
Oak Glen got five singles from P. Cole, R. Carter, M. McKay, B. Cooper and J. Maher.
Oak Glen got in an inning against Weir on Thursday before the game was delayed by rain.
