Bears golden vs. Madonna

WEIRTON, W.Va. -- Oak Glen's boys basketball team earned its first victory of the season by topping Weirton Madonna 65-50 on Friday night.

A.J. Ramgeet and Preston Cole had 17 points each for the Bears. Tyler Evans added 11 points and Alex Dennis got into double figures with 10 points.

Oak Glen (1-1) is at Beaver Local on Tuesday.

WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville made a lot of strides from the first game to the second one.

The Tigers opened up a 12-point lead in the first quarter and rolled over Southern, 62-46, for Nate Scott's first win as head coach.

Senior Richie Dowling scored eight of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter as the Indians built a 20-8 lead.

Elijah Douglas collected 16 points and six steals and freshman Andrew Mackey totaled 13 points and 13 rebounds off the bench after Tyrell Watkins got in foul trouble.

Wellsville -- which lost the opener 48-46 as Leetonia snapped a 32-game losing streak -- improves to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. Southern drops to 1-2.

Noah Chase topped the Indians with 16 points and seven rebounds. Markell Smith added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. Richie Sloan had five rebounds, Wyatt Bach four rebounds and Ethan Richards dished out five assists.

Wellsville's lead got as high as 15 points in the first half at 25-10 and 31-16.

The Tigers jumped ahead 43-27 early in the third quarter and the Indians never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Wellsville's largest lead was 60-39 with 1 1/2 minutes remaining.

Wellsville also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 38-9. Andrew Mackey scored 13 points and Austin Adkins nine for the Tigers. Wyatt Bach had four points for the Indians.

Both teams return to league play Tuesday with Wellsville at Columbiana and Southern hosting United.
