Shroades sisters power Indians

SALINEVILLE — Southern Local has leaned on senior Ashley Shroades to make big plays for most of her career, but her sister Allyssa had her say in the Indians’ 56-50 win on Monday.
Sophomore Allyssa Shroades made six three-pointers on her way to a career-best 20 points in the Indian victory. She hit six three pointers to go with four rebounds, four steals and two assists for her best game yet.
Ashley Shroades picked up just where she left off as she tallied a game-high 22 points along with eight rebounds, seven steals, five assists and two key blocked shots. Ashley Shroades also broke the school’s career rebound record with 788 rebounds. It was previously held by Rachel Coil (2009-2013) with 772.
The Indians trailed 40-37 and scored 19 points in the fourth quarter for the victory.
Makenna Jones contributed seven points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists and Josie Stanley had seven points, including a big three-pointer in the fourth quarter, with two rebounds and two steals. Haylee Kellogg grabbed five rebounds and Raelea Carosiello three.
The Indians are 1-0, while the Potters drop to 1-1.
Kenzie Headley topped the Potters with 15 points. Dacianelle Andrews added 10 points and Kenzie Walker seven.
East Liverpool won the two-quarter jayvee game 25-4. East Liverpool was led by Lanese Andrews’ eight points.
Southern entertains Leetonia on Thursday with a varsity-only contest at 6 p.m. East Liverpool hosts Claymont on Saturday.
