BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. --Tropical Storm Ophelia didn't stop the Oak Glen football team from picking up its first win Saturday.
Logan Murray returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and the Golden Bears did all their damage on the ground in a 42-0 win at Berkeley Springs on a wet and windy day with temperatures in the mid-50s.
Oak Glen improves to 1-4 heading into Friday's home game against Robert C. Byrd. The Golden Bears have won two of their last 15 games, both wins against Berkeley Springs.
Aiden Flowers paced the Oak Glen offense with 116 yards on 14 carries. Anthony Burt added 93 yards on 21 carries and Ethan Haenke had 58 yards on five carries.
The Golden Bears ran 44 of their 45 offensive plays for 283 yards, compared to only 50 yards for the Indians.
Gregg Sauers led the defensive effort 14 tackles, including 10 solos, and recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Ethan Haenke collected 10 tackles, seven of them solos, and defended two passes.
After Murray's kickoff return and two-point conversion to open the game, Burt scored on a 6-yard run and a two-point conversion to put the Golden Bears up 16-0 in the first quarter.
The score stayed that way until Oak Glen went up 30-0 in the third quarter as Flowers and Haenke scored on runs of 21 and 34 yards, respectively, and Burt added another two-point conversion.
In the fourth quarter, Sauers returned a fumble for a touchdown and Devan Jusczak closed out the scoring with a 31-yard run.
The Indians drop to 0-5 and have scored 27 points this season.
